Description
This is a painting from a series of paintings I did about my father, a jazz musician, who died from dementia. Throughout the series, I use the elephant as a symbol for dementia. The sheet music is to What a Wonderful World, which my dad and I danced to for the father daughter dance at my wedding. Years later, after the dementia had hit and he could barely speak, he was still able to sing some of the lyrics, and the way he looked at me told me he knew why it was special and who I was. Whenever I was around my dad, oh, what a wonderful world. This painting is featured in my book, Fractured Memories: Because Demented People Need Love, Too. It chronicles my family's heartbreaking and hilarious journey through my dad's dementia and includes 40 paintings.
