Description
This is a painting from a series of paintings I did about my father, a jazz musician, who died from dementia. Throughout the series, I use the elephant as a symbol for dementia. The sheet music is The Shadow of Your Smile. In case you're not familiar, some of the lyrics are, "The shadow of your smile when you are gone will color all my dreams and light the dawn." My dad was my best friend, and what gets me through the hard times is the memory of all the ways he made me smile, both before the dementia hit and after. This painting is featured in my book, Fractured Memories: Because Demented People Need Love, Too. It chronicles my family's heartbreaking and hilarious journey through my dad's dementia and includes 40 paintings. You can purchase it at http://shop.emilypageart.com/products/fractured-memories or on Amazon.

Love the painting and the story behind it. Sorry for your loss. I'm sure he would have loved it.

This is a lovely tribute to your dad, Emily. Dimentia is affecting so many of us, and we all need to find ways to cope and honour the people who are still left within. L/F
